Application of Artificial Intelligence Technology in Short-range Logistics Drones


With the increasing demand for logistics in China, the shortcomings of the current short-range logistics field are inefficient, and the occupation of labor is becoming more and more obvious. The proportion of the personnel engaged in production and the transportation personnel who ensure the flow of materials continues to increase, and the production efficiency of the total social labor force continues to decline. In this paper, combined with artificial intelligence related technology, a special drone design scheme is proposed instead of short-distance logistics distributors, aiming at adjusting short-range logistics links, improving logistics efficiency, and optimizing related logistics processes to reduce the need of number of workers to ensure the normal transportation of logistics.


The development of China’s online take-away market has experienced the stages of exploration, market start-up, and high-speed development, and will soon usher in the maturity of application. Since 2016, the online take-away market has entered a period of rapid development, and the basic pattern of Internet catering and take-out has taken shape. At the same time, the rise of the online shopping culture has led to the deployment of a large number of dispatchers responsible for traffic between the most remote distribution centers and express delivery desks at the terminals of each logistics station. The demand for short-haul logistics is rising rapidly. In the first half of 2018, the total social logistics volume in the country reached 131.1 trillion CNY[1].

The huge volume of short-distance logistics and its important position in the life of our people cannot be ignored. However, at this stage, China’s short-distance logistics is mainly undertaken by human resources. On average, several couriers and take-away riders are required per square kilometer of land, resulting in society[2]. The huge consumption of human resources. The short-range logistics drone based on artificial intelligence technology proposed in this paper can replace short-distance logistics dispatchers to participate in logistics transportation to a certain extent, complete short-distance logistics operations at a lower cost, improve the automation and intelligence of logistics industry.

A. Express Delivery Terminal Limit

China’s logistics “last mile”, that is, “door to door”, there are many problems in the on-time delivery of goods on demand. As an “arterial system” that guarantees the normal operation of the city, urban distribution has been exposed to the strong purchase flow of e-commerce in recent years. At present, the “last mile” still depends on the courier’s electric tricycle or both feet to complete the journey[3]. There is no logistics vehicle passage to ensure smooth logistics. Most of the logistics freight vehicles are restricted by traffic in the city, and there is still a problem that logistics vehicles have nowhere to stop. Full use of human foot transport will result in extremely low efficiency and a sharp increase in labor costs. The “last mile” of traditional logistics is shown.

B. Difference in Logistics Service Quality

The huge demand of logistics enterprises for shortdistance logistics distributors and the low entry barriers of related posts have led to the uneven quality of logistics personnel, which directly leads to the high and low quality of logistics service. Due to the work errors of some logistics personnel, there are often disputes in the scenes of direct contact between logistics personnel such as take-away delivery and door-to-door delivery; even if the logistics personnel are not directly in contact with the client, the education level is mainly Low laborers undertake the logistics and distribution profession at the end of the work, and often suffer losses due to subjective reasons.
